Is Letchworth A Nice Place To Live?

Letchworth Garden City is a nice place to live, nestled in North Hertfordshire, England. With a population of around 34,000 as of the latest census, Letchworth holds a special place in history as the first-ever garden city. It wasn't always bustling; in fact, it started as a quiet rural village until the early 20th century. That's when a group of visionaries, led by Ebenezer Howard, decided to create something revolutionary. They aimed to build a town that offered good jobs, services, and housing while maintaining the tranquillity of the countryside, unlike the busy industrial cities of the time.

Designed by Raymond Unwin and Barry Parker, Letchworth boasts the UK's first roundabout, Sollershott Circus, built around 1909. Its layout incorporates ample green spaces like Norton Common and Howard Park, reflecting the ethos of a 'garden city'. Over time, ownership of the town passed from private hands to a public sector body, the Letchworth Garden City Corporation, then to the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation. Today, Letchworth thrives with various job opportunities across sectors, making it a popular choice for commuters, situated conveniently near London and with easy access to the A1 road. Despite its modern amenities, Letchworth still retains its historic charm and commitment to community well-being, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Heritage Foundation.
