Is Rushden A Nice Place To Live?

Rushden is a nice place to live in Northamptonshire, England, situated around 18 miles east of Northampton. With a population of around 32,038 people, it's the fifth largest town in the county. Rushden boasts a picturesque location, nestled in a valley with the River Nene to the north and the county of Bedfordshire to the south. St. Mary's Church spire dominates the skyline, adding to the town's charm. Rushden has a rich history, stemming from its roots in industries like lacemaking and shoemaking. Although the number of shoemaking companies has declined over the years, some, like Sanders and Sanders, continue to thrive, producing boots for the British Army. The town has adapted to modern times with varied industries and a bustling town centre, which still retains its historic charm.

Governance in Rushden is overseen by local MP Peter Bone and divided into five wards for both District and Town Council purposes. The town has been part of East Northamptonshire since 1974 and became part of the new unitary authority of North Northamptonshire in 2020. Rushden's history is showcased through landmarks like Rushden Hall, now the town council's head office, and the former railway station, home to the Rushden Historical Transport Society. Plans for regeneration and development, like the Rushden Lakes Shopping Centre, are underway to enhance the town's amenities and attract visitors. Despite modernization, Rushden retains its community spirit and offers various leisure activities, including museums, sports clubs, and events for all ages to enjoy.
