Is Sandy A Nice Place To Live?

Sandy is a nice place to live in Central Bedfordshire, England, offering a delightful setting just 8 miles east of Bedford and conveniently situated within easy reach of Cambridge and London. With a population of 12,171 as of the 2021 census, Sandy boasts a rich history dating back to Roman times, with evidence of settlement prior to 250 BC. The town's name originates from a low range of sandy hills on its eastern side, forming part of the Bedfordshire Greensand Ridge, while the River Ivel flows gently to its west, adding to the picturesque landscape.

The heart of Sandy is nestled between these sandy hills and the River Ivel, with the A1 road skirting its western edge. Sandy's railway station on the Great Northern route offers convenient transport links to London and Peterborough, situated along the eastern fringe of the town. Noteworthy landmarks include The Lodge at Sandy Warren, headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), and the ancient hill fort known as Caesar's Camp. Sandy's charming Market Square, although not originally a market town, exudes a quaint atmosphere, reflecting its village roots, while the parish church of St Swithun, with its medieval tower, adds to the town's character.
