Is Woburn A Nice Place To Live?

Woburn is a nice place to live in Bedfordshire, England, boasting a quaint charm just a short distance from Milton Keynes. With a population of around 933 residents, this historic town offers a tranquil environment surrounded by picturesque landscapes. Notably, Woburn is home to Woburn Abbey and Woburn Safari Park, adding to its cultural and recreational appeal. Despite its small size, Woburn has a rich history dating back to the Domesday Book of 1086, with its name thought to mean 'twisted or crooked stream'. Over the centuries, Woburn has endured fires and rebuilding, evolving into the Georgian-style town it is today.

Throughout the nineteenth century, Woburn thrived as an important stop along the London–Northampton route, boasting numerous inns and even the first 24-hour post office outside London. However, changes in transportation infrastructure led to a decline in its significance, reflected in a decrease in population from 2,100 in 1851 to 700 a century later. Despite these changes, Woburn maintains its charm, with landmarks like the Woburn Town Hall and St. Mary's parish church standing as testaments to its enduring heritage. Additionally, modern amenities like the Woburn Golf Club and outdoor swimming pool offer leisure opportunities for residents and visitors alike, ensuring that Woburn remains a delightful place to call home.
